Yowza! Just to let everyone know....A small wooden dowel, a relatively mild tap, and the front pin slid out nicely. It made cleaning SO much easier. I thank all of you for your responses!

Thank you all for your replies. As I said, all the videos I've seen showed a complete separation of the lower from the upper, but it was done quite qiuckly and without using a punch. It just seems cleaning would be much more managable with a complete separation. Thank you for the tip, jagular.
