I carry fmj. Reliable good penetration and available. I know over penetration liability yada yada. Statistics say I will will have more clean misses than pass thru over penatrations.

i have harvested whitetails with both handgun and lever rifle in 357mag ,i used 158 soft points and have been pleased with the results

there is a security guard/who is also a hospital police officer here that carries a 5 shot rossi snubby as his primary , his load is remington 125+p jhp bulk pack. this is a legit police force with patrol cars holding cell the works. I am in Warren Ohio.

i went from 158 semi wadcutters to the winchester 130 grain train n defend round . it is a standard pressure round and did well in the lucky gunner test. it is shooting about 2 inches low at 10 yards from my 85ul.

357 hornady custom 158 xtp. would be my choice for woods walking with the treats you describe . deep penetration with controlled expansion .

I have been carrinf the sig saur 44 special loads in my 720 they show very good performance in the test I reviewed and they were the only non cowbow load I could find locally

while i do not carry hand loads ,I carry some remanufactured ammo. there is a small ammo company here and there load for 38 special has become my go to for revolver. he has business license ,atf 06 license and insurance
