A word of advice from an old caster ... Hang on to your Lyman Bullet moulds and keep a pot and ladle handy ... you never know when you might want a few bullets and the Lyman designs are getting hard to find ... They are paid for ... Keep them ! With a pot , ladle and mould you can cast a small...

That's Funny ... I just checked my notes / favorite and pet loads shows ,,, 4.2 grs W231 @ 810 fps - 158 gr. cast lead SWC - 38 special case - standard primer . This load goes back to the 1980's ... I been shooting it a long time and it's a good 38 special load . Gary

Never pass up a good excuse to buy another S&W ... You will come out ahead if you simply buy a 4" barreled model 10 ... they are not rare or hard to come buy ... Do that and you come out ahead ... you have a 2" and a 4" barrel model 10 ! Gary

Be careful trying to remove the stuck 1/2 part of the case . You can ruin the chamber easily ... I don't have a good easy way to get it out ... what I would do is take it to my local Gunsmith and see what they can do . Good Luck , Gary

They don't have to ... the correct size , bullet alloy , bullet lubricant or coating and a gas check takes care of any/all leading problems in my 41 Magnum loads ... If done right they don't lead . Gary

145 gr. weight is sort of an odd-ball but the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th edition , has data for 148 gr. and 150 gr bullets that you can use to get started ... the Lighter weights , 3 gr and 5 gr. of your bullet will not cause anything dangerous ... there will be a few FPS less and that's...

I tested my cast bullet loads and I get best accuracy when I seat to the top crimp groove and put a moderate roll crimp into the crimp groove ... this leaves the top driving band exposed and seems to help center the round in the chamber / throat . I don't measure anything ... seat the bullet...
