so if the barrel is stamped 223 you can not fire a 556 round correct? if it is stamped 556 you can shoot both?

i have a m&p 150r. my question is can i shoot a .223 round from this firearm? it is stamped on the barrel 556 but i was told i can also shoot a 223 round. thanks
