    Recommendations on Preserving M3 Holster

Thanks to all of you guys who have chimed in with different suggestions, definitely a lot of ideas. @Greyman50 you mentioned a concoction of beeswax and lanolin, is that something you make or is there a product? I see pure lanolin as a product, and I see items like skidmores that mix beeswax...

    Recommendations on Preserving M3 Holster

Geez, that's unfortunate. I can understand why someone might think that, but I can't condone them actually forging documents. I hope you find the missing pieces of your story one day. For my own part, I'll probably chip away at it here and there. So far I've found a couple people whose initials...

Thanks, and the Victory does have the US govt markings. It shipped to Norfolk for the Navy in May 1943, which lines up with the holster date. I asked the pawn shop to contact the previous owner to try and get more info where it came from, and he said they found it buried in their uncle's attic...

Interesting, thanks. What are your thoughts on something like lanolin to preserve what's there? I can also relate to your deteriorating holster situation. When I bought this pistol/holster set I knew the pistol had noticeable pitting, but nothing was mentioned about the holster. If I knew about...

If it helps resolve it, here are some better photos of the damaged areas. The first is one section by the buckle, the second and third are the area which has already been shown, and the fourth and fifth are where the strap meets the holster since that feels weak. This is my first M3 holster...

Interesting idea @Matt_X I hadn't thought of that Unfortunately no one comes to mind @jeffrefrig but I'll keep asking around That's also interesting @Gun Relics why do you believe it's already been repaired? I think I'd leave the hole in the body of the holster though, yes. Right now I'll...

@kwill1911 nice, thanks @quietman123 yeah, I saw another person recommend that as well. I'll probably just brush the holster and focus on scrubbing the pistol for now while I weigh my options on doing anything further with the holster

Thanks for the recommendation @AJ And gotcha @kwill1911 how would you recommend I clean it? I've also adjusted the strap so the segment which is being stretched and torn is no longer in the buckle, which I figured was causing it further strain.

That makes sense, thanks @Matt_X I've heard that recommendation as well, @kwill1911 but my concern is, if nothing else, the torn portion of the strap is fairly close to being torn off. You or anyone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but the strap being torn off would harm the value more than...

    Recommendations on Preserving M3 Holster

Thanks, in the Google searching I've done so far I've seen this is a highly debated subject, so I'm taking it slow in order to avoid irreversible mistakes. Admittedly I'm not sure how much the rig is actually worth right now, but I see people on ebay trying to sell comparable or worse condition...

    Recommendations on Preserving M3 Holster

I recently picked up a Victory revolver and holster which have been severely neglected. The worst is it appears the revolver and holster sat somewhere where water leaked onto it, corroded through the holster, and then severely corroded part of the revolver's exterior. Otherwise, the holster's...

    Victory Serials/Shipments

Very helpful Charlie, thank you! Your response wasn't pedantic at all and I honestly appreciate the detail provided. This subject has actually spurred me to become a member of the SWCA and I'll look forward to your article. Hopefully this isnt crossing too much into that territory, but would...

    Victory Serials/Shipments

I think it's in an article in the S&W Collectors association journal. Someone with access to their site should be able to verify that. Also, looks like the 454919 serial pistol lettered to Rosslyn, and the pistol my buddy has that started this thread was sent to the generic lend lease depot...
