Next Match is June. I'll be practicing and going for the perfect reload and the X ring hit. I'm in the 130PF range right now. Good for USPSA and ICORE. Thanks for the replys. -huey
What a great match! I had a blast. Had one meltdown on a field course. Only mananged to get 5 rounds in the cylinder. Instead of dumping that reload I went with 5 and totally screwed up the stage from that point on. I had really good hits-most of the time. After I had 4 C on one stage and...
This weekend at NPCCC in Porter County, Indiana.
Classic Division with a 686 6" and Comp lll speedloaders. The 686 is chambered in 38 Spcl. Revolver is unmodified. No trigger work and front sight is a plain post.
I shoot USPSA in three divisions, just not revolver. If this works out maybe...
Do any of the posters using 4g W231 have chrono data with the 158g lead bullet? I'll be shooting a 686 chambered in 38 spcl 6" barrel. I'd like to use N320 but its pricey and I already have 8 lbs of W231.
Talked with Cherryriver about Comp III Speed loaders and the 333 carrier from Safariland. Safariland(and brownells) states the 333 will not work with comp III. I bought the single carriers based on that info. Cherryriver tells me there is no problem with comp III and the 333 carrrier.
OK, I'm...
I think I'll start with the 158g and go from there.
PF for USPSA Bullet weight X velocity = power factor
158g X 825fps = roughly 130,000 or a 130 powerfactor
I'd be near the max for FMJ. More room with lead. I'll try the Berrys first. If not - lead it is.
Here goes: 686 6" I want to shoot in USPSA.
I've got 8 lbs of W231 so its the powder I want to use. I tend to use heavier bullets.
Some fellow shooters don't reccomend W231 for revolvers as unburned powder flakes get into the ejector star and jam up the mechanism.
From my experience with 231...
Power Pistol for me. Started out with 180 lead bullets. Its pretty smokey. Switched to 180 FMJ and 6.2g PP. Chrono'd about 955fps. Plenty enough for USPSA
Looking for Safariland comp lll speed loaders and speed loader carriers. Holster too. I like kydex.
Plan for shooting is ICORE/USPSA. I know its crazy however, looks like some fun too.
Finally got to shoot my 686 today. Double action is smooth and single action is so light I can hit 8" plates at 40 yards strong hand only. Would be nice to have a FO front sight(all my other pistols have one). Had a little trouble finding the front sight.
I used WWB for the break in.
I...
Now to find a good holster. Have not seen much for the 6" barrel. And need to come up with a good load. I've used W231 for my 38 spcl snubbies however, I'm sure there is a much better combination. I reload 45ACP, 40 SW, and 9MM. Open to suggestions.

I went ahead with the purchase. Good thing my wife came along - she saw the $50 rebate coupon for all new SW revolvers. And I can say she bought it for me since she signed the check!
Thanks Ed. Kinda funny, one of the listings on GB is the same shop I plan to buy from. $499, $549 buy it now.
I had planned to buy used however, most in this price range are beat up or if in really good shape priced close to retail.
