For many years, the WW free info showed 4.3 gr with the 158 gr lead bullet as a standard 38 Special load. That load shot to point of aim with the fixed sight revolvers. Low recoil and very accurate.
CCI used to make a 200 gr JHP 44 magnum Blazer load. I chronoed it at 1200 fps in a 5.5 inch revolver. Very comfortable load.
Sometimes you can find it.
Steinel makes a 200 gr Gold Dot 44 Special at about 1100 fps.
Looks like a cut down 4 inch barrel. The markings are not centered.
Not bad for a shooter if it works OK. The front of the barrel may have been damaged so they cut off 1/2 inch and reinstalled the sight.
I would try WW231 with the 158 gr GC. Use the start load and work up.
Your 38 Special load has been my target load for many years with 158 cast.
Loading without a gas check is OK for light loads.
