I replaced mine with the Mepro-light night sights and never looked back. Jim

    696 purchase

I shoot the 200 grain bullet from Oregon Trails at about 700 to 800 fps for practice and load the Speer 200 grain factory load for carry. Love it, my hunting partner who is the finest pistol shot I know, fired a sub 1 inch 5 shot group (off hand double action) at 50 yards the first time he shot it.

    696 moon clip conversions?

I had this conversion done to my 480 Ruger and it was the best improvement I've made. Very convenient and can carry different loads and exchange them quickly and easily. One load for "Big Brown Furry Things" and one for grouse. Jim

    696 vs 629 Talo

I live in "big bear country" and carry my 696. You can load it to over 900 fps with a 240 grain cast bullet and it will take any black bear you run into in Washington. Just have to be close and hit him, or her, in the shoulder blade. That will stop them and then you have the time to finish...

How do you get the powder residue off a stainless gun?

I too was tired of the crud on my stainless weapons. So I just had them cerakoted. Jim

Accuracy of Gunfights of the Old West

Then there is the character portrayed by James Colburn in Waterhole #3 who calmly steps behind his horse and pulls his rifle from the scabbard when confronted by an adversary in the classic stance in the middle of the street. He just shoots him and leaves him laying on the ground. But my...

    Longmire.

I'll pass too. Don't know where they got their info on Sharps rifles. Takes 5 sec to reload! They just need some encouragement, like a Brown Bear at 15 feet. Jim

    AVIATION BACKGROUND

I was a corpsman in the Coast Guard and attended Navy Aviation Medical Technician school at Pensacola. I flew in HH52's, HH3F's and C130's. Flew out of Port Angeles, WA and Kodiak, AK. Flew more medivacs than I care to remember in the 8 years I was in (received quite a few Sikorsky "S"...

    Open Carry Passed in Oklahoma

When I lived in Oklahoma in the 70's open carry was all that was allowed.

What guns do you carry the most?

Not really a need to carry too often here in Southeast Alaska. Small towns with no easy off island access. What I carry most often is a modified Super Redhawk 480 Ruger, 4 5/8 inch barrel and reduced to 38 oz. Mostly for "big-brown-furry-things", not two legged varmints. Jim

The Most Famous Person You've Met

I was in the Ceremonial Honor Guard in 1972-1973 and met many people, carried the casket for J Edgar Hoover, Senator Allen Ellender and Harry S. Truman. Does that count? Jim
