    My Victory

Very nice looking piece. It certainly did not have a hard life. A friend of mine and fellow board member has a DSC Victory that shipped to Masland Carpets in Carlisle, PA. Seems they produced a rubber coated material that the government wanted......

    Chief James E. Boggs

I have had good luck with using Marvel Mystery Oil as well as Kroil along with a copper scrub pad (not copper plated).

    Chief James E. Boggs

This one looks to be S&W J-frame Chiefs Special four-screw version (sometimes referred to as a 'model of 1953'). My guess on the date it shipped would be late '56 to mid-'57. Just a guess....Bob will be along to narrow it down for you. Prices for these are all over the map, and condition is...

New to me gun. Need help.

The K-22 likely shipped in 1948 / 1949. I'm leaning towards the second half of 1948, although there are others here that know more than I.

For those age 60 or under (Gen X or later generations…)

If our hobby is in a death spiral, why are prices still skyrocketing? Is it old geezers like me trying to spend down savings before we drop dead or are some new people getting in to the game?

    need help dating a terrier

Welcome to the S&W Forum, 8shutr! You have chosen a great place to be! I have a Terrier somewhat close to yours, SN 57103, a bit over 1200 units away. It shipped (educated guess) September, 1950, and is a blue six-screw post-war transitional. For better information, I suggest starting a...

    Pre-36 Baby Chief ?

Crazywader, the Baby Chiefs Special you opened the discussion with is a handsome piece that many of us would be very happy to own. You have a 'pre-model' in the sense that it was manufactured prior to model numbers being assigned..... but, in collector speak, a true 'pre-model' is one that...

    Polishing an old nickel finish

I have used Flitz with great success. I have not tried Mothers, but reports are very good for it too. I usually use a soft rag to apply, then a microfiber cloth to finish up. After that, a coat or two of RenWax with a microfiber.

Need help choosing good 1st Revolver for a beginner..

If you want to 'start' and work up to something else, consider a K22. They are a joy to own and shoot (and ammunition is very inexpensive). I learned the fundamentals (and much more) on a K22 and can say it was a great experience. Let nobody tell you that they are not lethal, either. The...

    Terrier/Chiefs Special ID Help

It is difficult for an untrained eye to see the difference between the early I and J frames until you lay them side by side. Here is a picture of both. Note the size of the cylinders. The I-frame cylinder will appear to be more of a square, and the J-frame more of a rectangle. The J-frame...
