Call Me Picky, but I believe the older units have a better fit, especially at the crane. Older models of most anything Smith are better fit, not only the 629’s. JMHO. Jim
About three years ago, I order a brand new model 66 3” through Sportsman’s Warehouse. When it arrived a week later, I inspected it and the crane fit was horrendous. Gap was bad to the point of rediculous. I showed them, they agreed, and refunded by payment and said not a problem. Well last...
Yup, seems perfect to me as well. Amazing what 1/ 1.5” barrel length does to sight radius. I own a number of 3.5” and 3” N frames, love them, but not to carry. Have a new 66 Combat Magnum 2025 model. Handles and conceals far better with the same ballistics as a model 27 3.5”
Yup, I Agree. Have mine in a mahogany box, 3 ‘T’s, purchased new in 1975. 5” is long enough to use to gain velocity, add weight to the muzzle end, and just short enough to holster carry and not push up when seated with the right holster. While I too think the 3/3.5” barrels are the coolest...
I purchased new back in 1980 (?) an early 629 from a dealer and didn’t realize at the time that it was still pinned and recessed. I simply wanted a stainless 29. What was also a surprise, it came with the standard of the time, plain blue cardboard box with re-enforced corners AND the classic...
Dry fire, dry fire, dry fire. Shoot bad guys on the tv for accuracy work. Get them before they leave the screen. When you hit 1000 dry shots, it will work flawlessly. Smooth as glass. Smiths only get better, not worms out. Can only attest to smith revolvers, K’s L’s and N’s. They just...
I have been using rim flush classic 148 grain full wadcutters in my snubbies since the late 1960’s. I was in LE 36 years and have a Smith pack up along regularly. Still carry a Smith 342 in a De Santis ankle holster daily. Have an old 37 and a newer 642 as well. All are loaded with 148...
A Sweetheart! Carried one for a number of years as a Southern California peace officer. Accurate, reliable, handsome, and easy on the hip. Only problem is even if you take care of it, inside and outside, it will only last 100 years. Jim
I completely understand. In 1968 I entered law enforcement straight out of college. I was 22 years old and shooting handguns since 16. An early big bore nut, acquired a model 29 and Ruger first series Blackhawk 44mag as well. Still have both and LOTS more. 44 Magnum is the greatest handgun...
