Smith & Wesson 3th model Russian

With a serial number of 80X it would likely be a "REISSUE". Also, most 3rd Models had the 1874 stamp as did some 2nd Models. It was NOT a date of manufacture. Joe

Model #3 Russian 2nd Model (Commercial) Pics Added Post#12

Stock cutouts look good to me and are right where the serial number would be. I've only seen a few of these with the stock cuts and honestly don't remember where the frame serial number was located. All Russian contract revolvers except approximately the very first 500 of the 1st contract have...

Model #3 Russian 2nd Model (Commercial) Pics Added Post#12

Not true. 2nd and 3rd Model Commercial production revolvers had assembly numbers just like 1st Models. These revolvers were all in one serial number series. 2nd Model and 3rd Models each had their own block of numbers and there was an "overflow block" at about 50000-52500. Joe

    Model 3 .44 Russian Questions

The 1874 in a rectangle mark is a Schuyler Hartley mark. There were 1875 and 1876 stamps made as well, but no one, to my knowledge, has seen those marks on a revolver. The 1874 mark is not just seen on 3rd Models, but very late 2nd Models as well. 2nd Model commercials were manufactured along...

Help with identity of Top-break ... Model 3

Does it have the pointed or flat trigger? It is near the transition of the hammer activated cylinder stop to the trigger activated stop. Joe

    Unusual Russian Oiler Cleaning Kit?

I will have it in my hands in about 10 days and then will know thread sizes etc. It is about 3 inches long (see attached picture) The end compartment was likely for a threaded oiler. A similar oiler for a Berdan rifle. Joe

    Unusual Russian Oiler Cleaning Kit?

This came out of Russia. It appears to be an oiler kit with a storage compartment. It is marked with the same mark found on third models manufactured at Springfield and Ludwig Loewe. Has anybody seen anything like it? Joe

    Video for Russian fans

Interesting, but quite a few production date and production number errors as well as some historical errors. I do like the trigger spur explanation. Joe

Model 3 Russian with serial numbers filed off!

The cylinder on this piece is not original - it is a Russian Contract in 44 Russian (stepped cylinder bores). Joe

Off topic for me-it isn't Russian

No letter. I would agree about Mexico. There are several known commercially marked rimfires in the 30,000 - 32,800 serial range. There are also Cyrilic marked Ludwig Loewes in the 90,000 range in 44 Henry rimfire. Joe

Off topic for me-it isn't Russian

I saw this number 3 at Tulsa. It changed hands before I could get it, but I did get pictures. It is a very late 2nd Model American or an old old No. 3. There were approximately 32,800 commercials made before the change to the 2nd Model Russian configuration. This revolver is 325xx. The...

Photos of your antique S&W Model Top Breaks

Cover photo for the Colorado Gun Collector's show guide. Second Model with original holster and lanyard. Revolver and holster were used by Lt. Col. Stephanski under Vrangle in the Russian Civil war. Lanyard is correct but not original to the set. Joe

    3rd Model

Here is what it should look like as a transitional. Original finish. These have small threaded hole on the right side for the hinge pin. The later hinge pin right side hole is larger. This should have the small trigger pin but it seems large to me but without the enlarged trigger pin...
