You're right, pointer finger set between the first and second knuckle.

my middle finger on my right hand wraps around and rests in the mag button area so I'm pretty sure i push it while holding the gun in recoil

I would've left it stock but i kept releasing the mag during fire, I'll try it again. All of my other autos I have zero issues with being right hand only. I did run a shield and kept releasing the mag.
