I agree 100% - do I have shorter barrel ones - definitely - but the best all around is the standard 6.5" barrel - which is likely why they outsell all other 629 models.

It's an alloy - nonferrous - you can't blue it. But then again I never yet had anything made by Birchwood Casey that does as advertised - I use Blu-Wonder on ferrous - and used my chemistry to touch up brass and silver solder - doubt that I'd even try it on scandium though - the ceracote idea...

The gun can handle virtually any ammo within SAAMI specs - no +P stuff - but I also have a dozen 629 models and you shouldn't shoot the +P stuff in them either - they work in my Redhawks & Dan Wessons - but I simply like the older prelock Smiths better - ironically though one of my 5.5" Redhawks...

You can shoot and can handle what you think you can handle - if it psychs you out - you won't enjoy it - nor will you master it - but it is just a mental game - not a physical one. I got mine for defense in the woods from cougars, coyotes, and ornery sow bears in the spring. Eventually I removed...
