    USMC MARKED VICTORY

Not helpful. Very negative. Yet, doesn't close definitively (such as a strong "the Marines would had never marked their firearms as such") the possibility that "it may have happen". Would this be a false negative? However, it does appear to be an uphill effort to even remotely hope to find...

    USMC MARKED VICTORY

*****UPDATE***** I followed the advice of one of our members and contacted the National Museum of the Marine Corps located at Quantico, Virginia. Although the information received back wasn't great, it didn't completely shut the door on my continuing investigation on the Victory that I have...

    USMC MARKED VICTORY

Good morning S&W enthusiasts! Thank you for your assistance in helping me determine if I have a fake USMC marked Victory or possibly an unicorn. I have received some good tips and I am following up on them. I will post updates as I get concrete information. I had to take some detail frame...

    USMC MARKED VICTORY

That is very interesting. So a step towards authenticity would be a letter to see if it was indeed a U.S. Navy firearm. However, that doesn't guarantee that someone just didn't slap on the PROPERTY USMC at a later time during its lifetime. I have added a close up picture of the USMC markings.

    USMC MARKED VICTORY

After seeing US Maritime Commission in print from you I think it might have been one of the old guys at the auction house that suggested that to me when he asked why I was set on outbidding everyone to win this particular firearm. Of course that could have been harassment as well (lol). I look...

    USMC MARKED VICTORY

Hello my fellow enthusiasts! I've had a Victory model stashed away for a few years that I picked up at a local auction house in SoCal. I had meant to post about it after receiving it but life got complicated and that task became a low priority. I probably paid too much for it but I had to...

I would love to see your M39-2! Have you previously posted pictures? Excellent idea to contact Bar-Sto.

HOW CAN THIS BE? LONG SLIDE S&W MODEL 59

That is definitely the same firearm and the user name "is" the guy that sold me the S&W 59 Long Slide. I don't know what to feel about that now, especially seeing he only owned it six months before selling it to me (and he tried to get me to buy the S&W 4006 he pictured next to it as well - I...

HOW CAN THIS BE? LONG SLIDE S&W MODEL 59

Gouging is a fact of life here in California. I just thought this particular 59 looked interesting and must have a story to tell. If, and when, I find it out I will certainly share it. It is enjoyable to shot and it will be tucked away in my S&W safe with the others I have collected.

HOW CAN THIS BE? LONG SLIDE S&W MODEL 59

Interesting...the guy I bought it from said he knew nothing of the pistol, it origins, how it got the long slide, etc. My google search of "long slide 59" only pulled up his images that he had posted to sell it. I found no other information forums that I was hoping to find. I was...

HOW CAN THIS BE? LONG SLIDE S&W MODEL 59

As I mentioned I live in California which is less than gun friendly and very hard to acquire anything. I found this long slide 59 on a California on-line forum and my first thought, as one expressed it above, is that it had an obvious slide weld. I purchased it without a physical inspection...

HOW CAN THIS BE? LONG SLIDE S&W MODEL 59

Hello fellow enthusiast. I need help in deconstructing a recent purchase of mine. I live in California, and some of you may know, it is very hard to collect in the State as we are restricted to what is already "in state". Recently, I came across a S&W 59 "long slide". Of course, being a S&W...

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE ENGRAVER ON A FACTORY ENGRAVED S&W 66-1?

Thank you Bill for the information (sorry for the delay - I didn't touch a computer all weekend). Roy's letter states "factory" engraved. So I'm guessing a contract engraver was still considered a "factory" engraver? When imported back to the USA was it shipped back to S&W directly? Thanks! Kev

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE ENGRAVER ON A FACTORY ENGRAVED S&W 66-1?

The letter from Roy Jinks, dated February 10, 1981, indicates it was shipped from the factory on July 18, 1980 with class "A" engraving. The blue cardboard box (with silver accents) is marked the same.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE ENGRAVER ON A FACTORY ENGRAVED S&W 66-1?

I think I am in the right forum as the S&W 66-1 left the S&W factory on July 18, 1980 according to a letter from S&W dated February 10, 1981. I have a six inch, factory engraved (class A), stainless steel 66-1 (pre-lock obviously) that I would like to find out who at S&W engraved it. Poking...
