If you do come across a real HH Harris 5inch, make sure there is a letter from Roy Jinks, S&W historian, to verify what you are buying. I've seen a few early 29s with 5in barrels cutdown from 6.5 and 8 3/8, sellers unknowing it was not an original 5" 29. Only a letter from S&W can verify its...

Agree with the above, an early 57 with cokes and 8 3/8 S prefix serial # just sold in the 3k range on GB. The 8 3/8 barrel length in the early years are extremely hard to find, especially in collector quality.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, your gun was made between 1972-74, (N60001- N190000), based on the low serial number safe to assume a 1972 DOM. Your gun also sports a 4inch barrel, measure thru the frame where barrel meets cylinder. Since this is a heirloom, you may consider lettering it...

Since you said 22lr is out, what about 22 WMR? Kel Tec PMR 30 has a great stock trigger and way fun to shoot. No it's not a S&W but definitely a fun gun.

Hmm... these are all good problems to have! Definitely go for the free P238, awesome little 380, You can shoot that regularly at the range with hogue grips much over a BG. Depending on the budget I'd get a Ruger 22 or spend some $$ on a Sig P226 or M&P for the range/home defense.

Anyone know how many of the 29-2 S serial number guns were made in nickel? I've looked through S&W std catalog and the 2003 SWCA vol. 37 written by Doc44 and can't seem to find the answer. I've seen a ton of the blued guns but rarely see one in nickel, curious to see if these are rare or not...
