    WTB/WTT 22 Jet inserts

A good friend just acquired a model 53 with 12 inserts for 22 LR. He would like to buy or trade into 6 22 magnum inserts. I told him I’d check here to help him out.

    Elmer Keith's Birthday is today

Happy birthday Elmer. Elmer's writings have guided me on many occasions. His wisdom is still applicable today.

    Odd ball calibers....

I built one several years ago on a left handed model 70. It is my favorite big game rifle and the most enjoyable wildcat I've ever worked with. H4895 is your friend. 4064 and 4320 are a touch slow for it. Several guys are reporting good success with RL15 and Michael Petrov, the premier...

    Odd ball calibers....

I have all three of the chamberings in the Powermag, 357, 401 and 44. The 401 is the front revolver. They are a bit on the homely side but well made guns. All are very accurate. I was pretty diligent when I first got my 401 to search almost daily for brass on the forums and GB. I managed to come...

    Grail gun came my way

Finally came into a grail gun. Pretty nice 38-44 Outdoorsman 38 special. I'm psyched to get it to the range.

    Favorite pistol bullet/powder combination?

With the standards, 38 spec, 357, 41 mag, 44 spec, 44 mag, 45 ACP/AR and 45 Colt, I usually start with the Keith loads with Bullseye, Unique and 2400. From there I move to HS6, 4227 and H110 if I haven't found a good load with the former. It is really unusual for a Keith load not to shoot...

    Thumbs Up for Starline

Living in Alaska I'm always thrilled that Starline doesn't penalize us for living up here. Some suppliers make us pay extra for USPS flat rate which doesn't cost any more to go to Alaska than any other state. Oh, you live in Alaska. Let's tack on an extra ten. Starline has all my business...

    Primers backing out, large rifle

Normally see this when using minimum loads and full length sizing the cases. If the chamber is on the high side of the tolerances and a light load is used quite often the primer backing out is the result. Try setting your die up so that it just barely kisses the shoulder neck juncture. You...

Got a little casting done today

My wife found that chair for me a few years ago at a thrift store for $10. It makes a great casting/reloading chair.

Got a little casting done today

Here's a couple pictures. I was mistaken. It is 10 inch well casing. In the long ago past, I worked for a well driller and they always had shorts of casing laying around. I still have a couple of 10 pound Lee bottom pours and a 20 pound Lee hand pour pot but I hand pour everything now from...

Got a little casting done today

Got a late start today. Had errands to run this morning but did get some bullets cast. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold and windy again so hopefully I'll get a lot more cast. I cast from a pot that holds about 125-150 pounds of lead. I made it 25 years ago from some 12 inch well casing. I...

What’s so great about 10 mm?

Here's my take for what it's worth. I have lived up here for 18 years and have been a firearms instructor for 15 of those years and have been a wildlife intervention trainer for the past 7 years. In wildlife intervention scenarios, where a person is assigned the job of providing bear coverage...

What’s so great about 10 mm?

As one who has spent the last 18 year tramping around bear country, both brown and white, I will say the shotgun is a fine tool if you are knowingly going into a bear encounter. However, I have on several occasions seen shotguns leaning against trees while the owner was fishing several yards...

Fellas, Those are some nice 631s. I surely wish I had bought one when they first came out.

What’s so great about 10 mm?

I was a little surprised at first at how many carry a Glock 10mm up here for bear protection. After some research I found there are some substantial heavy bullet loads available for the 10 specifically for that purpose. I carried a 10mm Special (40 S&W) Glock as a duty weapon and have always...
