Shot my new 617. When cleaning it for the first time, some rather large chunks of lead came out of the barrel when brushed.
Is this normal when first fired?
I got my first revolver today. A new 617 .22 with 4 inch barrel. It looks good except for the trigger. Seems to have a lot of discoloration. Is that normal? What is the best way to clean/polish it?
Yep! It was buried in some unlabeled box for 5 years. I was convinced I had disposed of it. Not long ago, I was digging around and found it. Called S&W and got everything arranged quickly.
I am puzzled why they didn't inform me about free shipping the first time.
Long overdue update....
Called Smith and Wesson again. They covered the shipping charge. Since 22a is discontinued, I have a credit towards any new S&W gun. 617 revolver coming my way.
Just got through to them on the phone. The key is you have to enter the extension to get through to support.

Leaving a voicemail or email didn't seem to work.
Anyway, they said just send it back to them. I have never shipped a gun before. They said use Fedex or...
When I field stripped my 22A-1 to clean it, I noticed a part was cracked. It the grey metal part which the recoil spring spacer sits up against.
Anyone see this before? I certainly hope its covered by warranty.
