I have the .40 on order through my gun club. I have been carrying a .40 Taurus slim, which is almost exactly the same size as the Shield. I have had no problem shooting or controlling the .40. I was able to handle the 9mm Shield and it fits my hands much better, just as my other 4 M&P weapons...
