Although MIM has been used for along time in the production of firearms, I prefer to stay away from anything expensive which has MIM parts. I have read stories where people have had problems with MIM parts breaking. Newer parts may be fine but I fear issues as the firearm ages.

I like both colors as well though I have to say I do like the dark color better.

Already trying to decide which caliber and model to purchase next, and yes I do want a collection of both pistol and revolver. Pistol choices: 1911-45acp, .40 S&W, and maybe a 9mm. Revolver selection to add to my .38 are: .357, .44 mag, and the .500 to just simply have it.

I have a M36-7 and looked in the archives for my gun on the S&W website which showed the M36 as a +P gun. Does anyone know which engineering revision was the first rated for +P. Non +P ammo for defense is hard to find in my area and I am also wondering if anyone knows if my -7 will handle it...

I know exactly what you mean. I also have my eye on the 686 which just happens to be the first revolver I held and made me fall in love with revolvers in the first place.

Just wish I would have made my first handgun a revolver.

Traded for a used M36 and took it apart to clean it. I did find carbon inside so heavy oiling will lead to a lot of crud inside over time. I just placed a light coat to prevent rusting and nothing more.

I trades my M&P for a 36-7 and absolutely love it. Took it apart and cleaned it up and it works a whole lot better mechanically. Pulled so much carbon off of it and a little rust on the internals.
