    S&W repair question

Not a State issue. It's Federal law that only dealers can ship handguns through the USPS. Also agree 100% with using a hard case -under no circumstances should you use a soft zipper case to ship any firearm. If the factory didn't ship in a hard case, an adequate one can be purchased for less...

    Model 41 problem, sort of...

Sorry to have taken so long to get back. Quick answer, to save reading the rest below: No, haven't messed with it, and am no closer to doing so. I have been unable to make myself start cutting on a 3/4"/50 yard M41. What appealed was making a roughly 5" light "field type" barrel with a threaded...

    Model 41 problem, sort of...

Purchased a used 7" M41 at a very good price, because of a minor, but detectable bulge about 2" from the muzzle. I thought I'd cut it just before the bulge and make a "field" barrel, but also turn the muzzle and thread for a suppressor. It's one of those from the Millet rear sight era, so I...

    22 Mountain Gun

100% The 34 or 63, both 4", are some of my favorites. I also have the 34 in a 2"; it is amazing how much more accuracy is possible (for me, at least) with the extra two inches. (Insert "size does matter" joke here)

Archival Observations: The S&W Loudenboomen in .30 Carbine (Target)

Thanks. Always said great minds think alike. Having fired the .30 Carbine Blackhawk, can second the concussive effect.

    Glock has really shocked me!

Glock reportedly put a real safety on one model, for a foreign (Thai Police) contract. There is some dispute about this. Photos can be found online, but have yet to see one in the hands of FW's Ian Mccollum, etc.. "But Glocks have 3 safeties", their reps like to say. Jeff Cooper -"Putting the...

Archival Observations: The S&W Loudenboomen in .30 Carbine (Target)

Does anyone know how they handled the .30 Carbine extraction? Half moon clips, maybe?

Is anyone out there still able to convert a Model 28 to 44 Special?

Boy, do I know that feeling. Waaay back, George C. Nonte wrote praises for someone who did .44 spl conversions on Smiths (Won't say his name, but it can be found). Can only assume that as a very well known gunwriter, George got special treatment. So, I sent him a NIB 6" Model 28 (For which I...

Titegroup 9mm Question for 147gr Load Data

In my two Hellcat Pro's, (3.7" bbls), with 147 gr. Extreme Plated RN, mixed brass, WSP or FC200 primer,1.145 OAL, Lee FC: 3.6 gr titegroup averages 958 fps, 26ES, 10SD 4.3gr CFE Pistol averages 966 fps, 12 ES, 4SD Can not really see any differences; both seem to burn cleanly; target accuracy...

Model 41 is Not Ejecting Casings

Have run many 10's of thousands CCI SV through several M41's -have never oiled a single cartridge. My opinion, as a current owner of five: If a M41 needs High Velocity (or oiled) ammo to run, something is wrong. I did have some extraction issues on a couple; changed the extractors out for...

My Model 41s are getting a new brother

I hope you can post a photo of your "Bobbit" 41. Have a spare 7-3/8" barrel; thinking of doing that. Would like to find one of those old shorter Field barrels, but any offered for sale seem to be made of gold. In the Dean W. Charron "My Life with Smith & Wesson" book, he writes about the first...

    Muzzle Brake Lesson Learned

Tried them, before suppressors finally became allowed in my State. On a shorty, all those "forward diverters" will do is very slightly slow down hearing loss, but they do make sandbags last longer.

    Muzzle Brake Lesson Learned

I believe the OP was stating that he uses suppressors, and not muzzle brakes. Same here. I live along the Mississippi River; any brake I've incidentally acquired is immediately stored there, on the bottom, somewhere.

    Another disappointing gun show

That describes many decades of shows, for me. I would look forward to the familiar faces (gun enthusiasts/dealers) as much as the guns. Go in expecting nothing in particular, and almost always left with one or more guns. If I was absolutely searching for one thing, it was seldom there. But...
