    Scope Recomendations, M29

Be sure you get a scope with parallax adjustment! This is critical inside 100 yards.

    Right crimp for Wadcutters

Don't crimp. A lot of people, including me don't. Typical wadcutter loads are so light there is no need to crimp.

JHP's always more accurate than lead.

Thanks for everyones input on the subject. I have learned a lot and have a lot to consider. You have convinced me to keep trying for better lead accuracy. I like long range bench rest shooting; it's just my thing It certainly points out very quickly any errors in technique, cartridge...

JHP's always more accurate than lead.

If all you are getting out of your scoped 8" 686 is 4" groups, you and I are talking apples and oranges. With the exact setup as you, except using a 6" barrel, I routinely shoot inside 3" and, as I know you noted in one of my posts, I have come very close to 2", on occasion. My attempts at...

JHP's always more accurate than lead.

ArchAngelCD Your statement is as generalized as mine In my case, with my guns, it is not true that lead is more accurate than jacketed. In fact, in my case, the opposite is true. I have done a lot of testing with .38, .357, and .44, trying all of the "accurate" lead loads. Have you actually...

JHP's always more accurate than lead.

ACP230, Did you ever try shooting bullseye with jacketed bullets? If so, what were the results?

JHP's always more accurate than lead.

A jacketed bullet (at least XTP's, which is all I use), will most always shoot more accurate than a lead bullet at any distance, regardless of the powder or load. This has been my experience after a lot of rounds, both 50 ft indoors and 25, 50 and 100 yds outdoors. In addition to different hard...

What does "target load" mean to you?

Everyone's comments on "target loads" have been instructional and interesting. I couldn't agree more that each of us has their own definition of what constitutes a "target load". I am going to make a possibly controversial statement though that a jhp (at least XTP's), will most always shoot more...

    What does Ballistic Coefficient mean?

I believe the .50 BMG Ball bullet has a BC of 1.0, and all other bullet BC's are determined by comparing their flight to it. Seems to me I remember reading that somewhere.

What does "target load" mean to you?

It was not my intent to imply that my "target loads" are better than anyone elses. I think it is interesting to see how each shooter views what a target load is to them. The term is thrown around all of the time, and seems to get the tag of being low power and being a wadcutter, or semi. Believe...

What does "target load" mean to you?

A lot of people use the term "target load", what does that really mean? I have put over 3500 rounds through my 686 and 629 since the first of the year in hopes of finding my "target load"; the one that hits the bullseye consistently Guess what, it ain't a reduced load and it aint a lead...

    Hogue 500 grips

I just put the Hogue 500 grips on my 629. They are identical to stock but cover the backstrap. I like them because they move my hand back from the trigger and they cushion the felt recoil somewhat. They cost $35 plus shipping from S&W. I believe they will also fit the 686.

    Why have anything else?

Would you believe I sold my Ruger MKII to be able to by the 686? My wife is next.

    Power

20 miles North of Jackson, MI, primers at the gun shop are $68 per 1000. The gun shop in Jackson has the same brand for $38 per 1000. Guess who I will give all my business to in the future. Not because of cost but because of integrity!
