It's a nice 29. I can't imagine being bothered by a minor defect like that. I worked at a major S&W distributor and warranty center in the late'70 - early to mid '80s, and I'd see little QC hick-ups like this all the time.

High end classic custom rifles are still built using military '98 actions, particularly for those looking for CRF for dangerous game and classic calibers, and the 1909 Argentine is one of the better choices to start with.
Unfortunately your rifle, while it was probably someone pride and joy...
Here's my entry; '63 340hp solid lifter. Used to run it a lot on Mulholland, and Laurel Canyon; had it for a lot of years. Fun car, but I went back to Alfas.
