i think the State Dept. special order 19-5 run had AYY prefix serial numbers .

It is polished blue. By only making 680 of these special order for the state dept, and probably only in their hands, would that not boost value ?

It's nice to have a variety of finishes , but given the choice of perfect finishes it has to be nickel.

Picked up a special order 19-5 serial num. AYY4XXX. 4 in blued round but. In the big S&W book it says it was made for the State Dept. Does anyone know more about this gun ? The gun is 99% with the box. Any value estimates ? Thanks.

A white grease pencil works if you want it back in. I have used it on some old mauser rifles but never on a smith.
