I've shot hundreds of Berry's and Xtreme plated out of my ported and non ported Shields and haven't noticed any issues yet. I've heard that the porting can cut the bullet plating etc. I've been told that warning is on the boxes of Blazer Brass factory ammo too.

This is only my second interaction with S&W service. I had them rebuild a Model 29 that was basically worn out. This was probably 20 years ago. I shot the heck out of that gun. When I got it back I didn't think it was mine.....they did a beautiful job on it and charged me very reasonable money...
It's a coil pin or coiled spring pin....they're tough to source locally around my area unless you want a box of 100 or so. The pin is actually coiled several revolutions unlike a standard roll pin that is split where the two edges meet. I was a machinist for over 20 years, used both styles.
