I'm glad to see this "necropost" haha! I went back and looked, and I paid $580 for mine, with the box, back in 2009, from the last gun store in San Francisco - High Bridge Arms. Who knows what it's go for now (the gun or the store).
Interesting discussion. As a Gen-Xer, it seems that (thanks to Millenials!) we live in a golden age of appreciation for "hand-crafted" things. From beer, and food, to clothing, bikes, tools, homes...there is a deep generational appreciation for things that took time and money to create and...
So I have the gun now...haven't had time to get the camera setup with the right lighting to photograph it, but I can report that:
- the same serial number is present on the backside of the yoke, visible through an empty chanber.
- there is a "3" stamped on the underside of the extractor star...

Great score - to me a lot of the fun in this hobby is the joy of landing a sleeper like this. As much as people grumble about prices on auction sites there are still deals to be had....just have to put in some time to see what is out there.

I won the auction for this revolver - I had the same observations/questions but decided to take a chance. I will photograph the other part numbers more clearly when I get my paws on it and report back. Definitely going to have to letter this one.

No question that it is harder to find "deals" at gun shows these days. But they are there, you just have to scratch a little harder to find them.
In general, I buy my Colts from S&W specialists, and I buy my S&W's from Colt specialists. And I check out anything in blued steel that retail FFL...
