    This thread inspired me. I had an SSA in the parts drawer for quite a while. My range is shut due to constant flooding over the last couple of months, so it might be a while before I get to take it out. So now I'm done with the lower. The only thing left is to decide on a free floating hand guard.

    I also agree with a lot less magnification. I just recommended an SWFA 3-9x42 in another thread. I would have a hard time considering anything less for hunting though. Yes, you can get an accurate shot on medium and larger game at 200 yards with a 4x. However, 9x comes in handy when looking to...

    I am the same way about the Matech buis. It works great for me unless lighting makes it useless.

    Good first rifle?

    I'm in the same club of having no problems with several hundred rounds fired. As for hog hunting, it depends. If you are going to be in a stand or vehicle, it will get it done just fine. If you are going to be walking/stalking, something lighter will serve you well. An AR15 in 6.8 or 300BLK...

    I don't run iron sights on the Big Smith. IMO, it needs a scope. I'm not sure what everyone does with their rifles; I shoot things in the field and woods, a lot.
