    S&W 28-2

Probably not. The 28-2 is my recommendation, if it's still available at that price. By the way, I've recently acquired a 28-2, and it is a mighty fine shooter.

    S&W 28-2

Pinned means the barrel is pinned at the frame to keep it from turning loose. It is not done these days. You can see the pin just above the barrel on the frame. If you do a search on the forum, you'll find lots of information about it. Recessed means the cartridges fit flush with the back of...

    N frame grips Model 28-2

I am looking for original style grips for my Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman. My local gunsmith told me to check Numrich Arms on-line, but they are sold out of all N frame (part number: 321960) grips, including the model 28. Anyone know where I might find a set please? The gun was recently...

    Hi from WA State

Welcome. This forum is quite an education, I think you will find.

    Model28-2 HIGHWAY patrol

Just today, at the local gun show, I bought a 'new' Model 28-2 that looks like it has hardly ever been fired. A 6" beauty. Here are the pics (attached). The price was right and I couldn't resist the temptation. The serial number puts it in the late 70's. I think I did all right from what I read...

    Comet/teardrop shaped bullet holes?

I was shooting Fiocchi .357 mag and Magtec .38 spec., 142 and 158 gr. respectively. The range is indoor, with significant negative pressure between the firing line (booth) and the target area, which makes a wind that you can feel coming past you and does make the target flap sometimes, depending...

    Comet/teardrop shaped bullet holes?

Last night at the range I noticed a good percentage of the holes that I was punching in the paper targets with my Model 649 were comet shaped, not round, with the tail at about 7pm or so. Technically, what is going on with that? It's a 2 1/8" barrel, and I was shooting both .38 specials and...

    627-8 Performance Center question

I can't imagine you will have any trouble shooting as much .357 magnums as you want with that gun. It's a nice shooter to enjoy without worrying about it. In fact, I expect you will be worn out before that nice Smith & Wesson. Be safe.

Best .357 load for woods carry in Colorado

Buffalo Bore makes a 180 gr. "Heavy .357 Mag". It will do the job. You can count on it. I pack the 686 4" on the mule trips or whenever on or off the trail. They also make 170, 158, and 125 gr. JHC. Have fun and be safe. Oldgun

After handling my M&P 9c I get a strange metallic taste in my mouth! Why?

This is the funniest tread I've read on the forum for a long time. My wife ran 50 rounds through her brand new M&P 9mm last week. She was like a little girl with a new toy, lot's of smiles and joy. There was no mention of metallic taste however. She had field stripped it and cleaned the factory...

    686 Trigger Job

It was about $100. The gunsmith said it took him about 2 hrs, but he only charged me for 1 hr. I think I got a deal. I expect you will enjoy the results.

    686 Trigger Job

I was a little apprehensive at first, after dropping off my 686-3 with the gunsmith at the local range, for a trigger job to lighten the factory double action (DA) pull a little. Relieved by the LEO turned gunsmith's experience at having been issued a 686 service revolver earlier in his career...

686 4" Midnight Black removing brass mark

My 686 is a Midnight Black and acquired a small brass "skid mark" on the finish just below the S&W ensignia. It almost looks like a copper color, and it's very small. I'm afraid to rub it too hard with anything abrasive, since I'm trying to preserve that nice factory finish. Any thoughts on how...

Is there a learning curve with revolvers?

You said: "There's a set of shooting videos by Jerry Miculek on S&W's website that I highly recommend that will help you improve your revo shooting" I'm interested but couldn't find these on the S&W website. Could you please post the link or provide it for me? I would appreciate it very much...
