How do you actually enjoy a Magnum caliber revolver?

I have the same 629 and both my son and I have had the same experience with the “hump” of the backstrap making a blister shooting fairly hot loads. After trying several grips, we found the Hogue monogrip (#29000, I think) moves the hand slightly lower and the hump no long bites the web. Will...

    S&W Model 41 Reliability

I have had one for over 40 years and it has never been a problem or needed smithing. I’m inclined to think, that there are so many 41’s out there, that the people with issues discuss them more than the 41 owners that have not.

    Full size range gun

My “full size” range guns have been whatever I thought “fun” at various times in my life. Several versions of Browning Hi-Powers, many Smith revolvers, a bunch of old service sidearms including a Webley, a Luger, and a 1905 New Service. Sadly, most of them have moved on to others. That said, the...

    Got Rail Road Torpedoes?

After reading this thread, I remembered two long forgotten things I did that calling dumb would be charitable. First, years ago in Camp Drum NY, where my dad was the post S-3, I had the run of the impact and training areas when reservists weren’t training. I would pick up lots of ammo they’d...

    K48-4 cylinder question

Ok, you’ve sold me. Im all I for for getting this right. Today the pistol goes to a gunsmith to make sure it’s set up correctly. Thank you

    K48-4 cylinder question

Follow up: the model 18-4 .22LR cylinder I purchased fits my 48-4 perfectly. It is a complete cylinder including the ejector and yoke. It’s even in as good a condition as the original. Looks like $180 so I can shoot mag or LR is money well spent.

    K48-4 cylinder question

I just purchased an 18-4 cylinder with crane. From what I could find out it looks like the 18-4 change, like the 48-4, was moving the gas ring from the yoke (crane) to the cylinder. When it comes in, I’ll report on what happens.

    K48-4 cylinder question

I just traded a couple of semi auto pistols for a nice K48-4 circa 1982. It has a 22 mag cylinder. I’d like to get a .22 LR cylinder for it. Would a .22LR cylinder with crane from an 18-4 interchange? I was thinking swapping crane and cylinder would be easier than trying to just change...

    Whats your latest purchase? "guns/accessories"

Went out looking for a Smith .22 inspired by an earlier topic. Didn’t find anything in .22LR so I settled for a Model 48-4 8” in .22 mag made in 1982. Traded two pistols I seldom shot, a Beretta 92F and a Mak IJ-70. The scope mount looks like a no drill. I plan to dump it and the Leupold M8 4x...

    Best S&W .22LR revolver?

I no longer have a .22 revolver and too many .38’s. This thread makes me want to buy one. Locks on Smiths irk me. Main reason, even if ridiculous, I don’t like my 686. Guess I need to run out and sell/trade something so I can get an “older” pre-lock .22

When to say when and when to let it go.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve dealt with patients and their families in similar situations. Tough for the family looking for a miracle and tough for the medical staff trying to explain there isn’t likely to be one. I pray you find the strength to help make the hard decisions and to live...
