    It's a California Automatic knife imported by taylor brands..model 1260, 1260S (serrated) , 1265 stag, 1265s stag (serrated). They were made around 2001 wholesale price was $55.00 U.S.

    BK43 is right...Smith & Wesson USA doesn't mean it is MADE in the USA, Most of the Early Taylor knives were made in Japan...my opinion is that they are well made...as for the boxes? I'll have to research them further...

    I've purchased two of these unique knives...the top lever is moved to the side to unlock and lock the blade into the handle...a truely unique knive...I've never seen another knife use this locking mechanism...

    Right now you can pick up knife tins fairly reasonable...S&W (Taylor) has produced approx: 21 knife tins...I agree with the other posts...keep tins intact and some day they may increase their value...

    Taylor made a automatic "california" knife" Smith & Wesson knife...there were models #1260-1260s-1265-1265s..in the early 90's for $55.oo wholesale. These were short blade and were only 3 1/2" closed...being so small these may have been legal in California? The new spring Assist knives (legal)...

    I have to agree with most of the above opinions...The early made in the usa S&W Knives are excellent quality...the imports are fine and if lost etc. no big deal...the price is right...I use a Cuttin-Horse every day on my farm...it does the job....I am still impressed by these new knives.
