Were you able to shoot enough to get the barrel fairly warm? I was thinking this may also be a factor considering the build material of the rifle.

I picked up a couple 10 round shorty mags. It cured the problem for bench shooting and actually makes it nicer for hunting as well. I can go prone quickly or don't have to be as particular about a rest.
