Has anyone soaked their Airweight in Acetone to remove the old clear coat from their Airweight? I would like to strip it down the the bare aluminum. S&W should be ashamed of this awful finish they did on some of these guns. I never used any harsh cleaners on this gun. Only oil. :mad:

My old J frame 638 is looking pretty bad due to the clear finish coming off. Anyone ever tried to just remove all the clear off the frame? I can scratch it off with my nail it's so soft. Don't think you really need it if you polish the aluminium once in awhile.

That's a bummer :mad: My 638 was a *** when it was new until I took her down and cleaned all the aluminium shaving out of it and added a small amount of lube. Work flawless now :cool:
