    Finish variations on Outdoorsman

Yours would certainly fall into the category of "bright" if laid beside my Outdoorsman!

    Finish variations on Outdoorsman

Thanks for all the useful information. I guess my 1953+/- revolver is more "standard issue" than special. It is similar to those shown by RKmesa. I too was confused about what was stated in the Standard Catalog. Now would be a good time to compare it to my no-dash 28. +1 on the Satin vs. matte...

    Finish variations on Outdoorsman

I have a very nice Outdoorsman sn S987XX with a somewhat dull blue finish; not as dull as a Model 28 but not as shiny as a regular finish. I have seen only passing reference to this duller finish, but do not know where in the production or on how many guns this occurred. Is this finish par for...

    Lubrication question - confused

The advice I followed while shooting service rifle competition for 20+ years got carried over to handguns and has served me quite well since. If it slides, grease it. If it rotates, oil it. Either in moderation.

    Nickel finish questions

I acquired a nearly-pristine Merwin Hulbert, perhaps unfired. The nickel finish is almost flawless, with just a tiny spot or two beginning to tarnish. I'd like opinions on what is the proper way to care for this finish, and slow down/prevent flaking. Should it be kept dry? Oiled? Are there...

    657 no dash 3"

Great info from everyone. Especially like the values given!Reading all this, I guess it's safe to say the Horton guns can be easily distinguished 2 ways- the full lug and the -4. Scott1970- your pictures of your Horton look like the finish is more matte than highly polished like mine. Is that...

    657 no dash 3"

Can the experts chime in with their knowledge of a 3" 657? Specifically, numbers produced, and relative value? The SCSW mentions a small run for Lew Horton, yet also lists a regular product code. I recall seeing some info one time about 5 different serial number blocks for this gun. What, if any...

    Model 17-6 question

There I go getting in trouble for assuming something. I assumed that with the likelihood that there are fewer no lug than full lug guns, they might be the ones that would bring a premium. Great info. Thanks.

    Model 17-6 question

If Magnas are correct, that will narrow my search. Thank you!

    Model 17-6 question

Thank you murphydog. I always try to learn as much as I can about anything that goes into the collection. Unfortunately, this revolver did not have the correct stocks, so I'll need to find an appropriate set. I appreciate your response.

    Model 17-6 question

I just acquired a 6" 17-6 from an estate sale without the full underlug. The SCSW puts the serial number at August 1989, and makes mention of some early 17-6's without the full lug. My questions are, are there any estimates of the number produced of this variation, and is there any premium (or...
