faux ivory magna grips for 686

I don't know if you can get the S&W medalions in these or not, and they're not cheap but very nice. Bar S Grips & Tru Ivory Home Page

586 who has one and loves it?

No dash 4" here. I don't have any pretty pictures but y'all know what one looks like. Add an action job, chamfered charge holes, ball-detent on the crane and some Ahrends Combat FG grips. Like buttahh.

    Coulda' saved time and money...

Thanks for the comments. The money wasted was on the ones I bought before I got to these. And the price was right, 'bout $57 including overnight shipping. Guy got them a while ago but got the wrong ones, these weren't even mounted on a gun until mine.

It's a crappy picture but shows the grips well.

    Coulda' saved time and money...

...if I'd just bought the Ahrends grips first. My 586 came to me wearing Hogue rubber. Felt ok but looked generic. Tried some factory checkered targets, nahh. Eagle finger groove grips had the screw hole in the wrong place, screw interfered with the mainspring and I had to send them back...

    Sending in my 586

Well, I got it back today and was a bit surprised. First off was the exactly two week turn-around, not bad S&W. Second was the work done. The original issue was that the gun had not had the firing pin bushing modification done and I specifically stated that in the note I left inside the box...

    Used 586 4"

And the beautiful thing is they shoot just as good if not better than they look. I have the Hogues on mine but I'd prefer to find some wood that feels right in my hand. The Hogues feel great and make it easy to hold on to but don't do the gun any justice in the looks department. Mine came...

    Sending in my 586

In this case I actually want them to replace the parts with new factory parts. I like my slippery action and light trigger pulls but not going bang is a big problem. The polished parts as they are now look fine but the gun would look more proper with CCH parts.

    Sending in my 586

I purchased a very good condition 586 a few months ago, in the dead of winter. It is a no-dash and has not had the upgrade done to the firing pin bushing. I wasn't going to send it back, figured if it was this old and had no problems it should be fine, right. I just had to take it to the...

Called S&W on my two 36's

I would like to add to this that factory ammunition has been watered down in recent years. I can't speak for pressure limits, but .38spl from the 60s and 70s had bullet weights and velocities that meet or exceed that of modern +p ammo.

    2" vs. 3" ballistics- .38 Special J-frames

And there lies my only beef with the 3" j-frame. The best way to carry it is in a belt holster, but if I'm strapping on leather might as well make it a 3-4" k frame. Just my opinion.

Price check on a SW 586

I just traded for one about 2mos. ago. I had $425 in the trade and felt good about it. My 586 is a no-dash and included the box, but no papers or factory grips. Finish was closer to 95-98% and it has had a slick but reliable action job and a ball-detent installed. My local smiff said...
