    Nickle cleaning question

There is no copper underneath the nickel- at least, not on any gun that falls into the 1980's to present category. Copper is only used when plating in layers with regular nickel, because pure nickel does not bond well to steel. However, Smith and Wesson uses electrolysis plating, and IIRC...

    New 642- Thoughts?

Is it used, or new? If it is new- tell them you made a mistake and bought a lock one, I am sure the FFL wouldn't mind if you have him call RWS and order you a no-lock model. The DAO revolvers- including the 642- are being made new on special order without the lock.

About to buy my first gun... ever! Help! :)

Do a poll of how many of them have been shot in the chest with a .380, and go by those results. The .380 is just fine for close range work, a lot of people here use .38 special which is close in ballistics to the .380. Just get good ammunition (you may be better off with FMJ), practice with...

About to buy my first gun... ever! Help! :)

I would vote... semi-auto. There are several pistols out there (Like the Beretta Cheetah) that have an option of tip-up barrels. You tip the barrel up, put a round in the chamber, close it, insert magazine, done. After the first magazine, the slide does not need to be racked, it will lock back...

    Finally found one

Not so much of an immediate stop, but snow turns to water and water leads to rust... especially with all the salt dumped on the roads in the winter time down here. My 442 nickel was $349 used and I talked myself into it- never been a salesman in my life, but I do believe in Murphy's law.

crimson trace, useful or a waste of money?

EXTREMELY useful. The only times I really hear people complain, is when they aren't trained in laser use... one of the worst things that I see is laser chasing. The point of a laser, is that it gives you accuracy over an area (aim or point to the area first, then use the laser... don't chase...

    Finally found one

I like the DAO action for another reason- nothing gets in the action. When carrying pocket carry (or even in a holster), anything from pocket lint to food crumbs to snow and dirt/dust can get knocked down off your coat and into your pocket/CCW holster. Since the barrel will be pointed down, that...

    New 442

Mine was used (barely), but, also had an excellent trigger... shoots great too!

No rub on my 442, which is the same size/design as the 642 (just high carbon steel instead of stainless). You don't have a ton of clearance, as the revolver does not leave room for much, but there is no contact. Just make sure you practice at home or the range before you carry, so you can get...

True or Flase--S&W is removing internal lock on some models?

So it looks like I will be forced to settle for a M&P 340? What other new, no lock guns are there in .357 for concealed carry from S&W? I really wanted a DA/SA, because I anticipate recoil to be heavy on a compact .357, and a crisp SA trigger would help prevent a jerk reflex from becoming an...

Get a Comp 1 speedloader, it works for the 642/442 fine. Some gun shops carry them, or they are $12 bucks at Cheaper Than Dirt... the knob is is a little short, but when you get used to it, it offers quick reloads. Just practice with it first.

True or Flase--S&W is removing internal lock on some models?

Is there any hope of a 649 being made without the lock in the future?

Deal of the day at Gander Mnt

I have gotten one deal, at least, a "kinda" deal at Gander Mountain. Original, matching W. German Sig P220 in .45 with two original mags and original box for $600, in excellent condition. It wasn't an amazing deal, however, the cheapest you find one in that condition online is usually...

    Questions on nickel 442 care

I guess I will get some Hoppes Elite and give it a whirl, then. Anyone know about how much this pistol is worth? It is in very good + condition, minus the faint brown spots from the sticker residue and a fine scratch on the cyl, the nickel is perfect. I paid $349 OTD for it by the way.
