.455 calibre World War 1 revolver

About $1200 I saw a S&W Hand Ejector No. 2, .455 cal., in a local gunshop a few months ago. As I recall, it was 90 to 95 percent and was $1195.00. I suggest you keep yours. As an heirloom its worth is more than its cash value, IMHO.

    Gaddafi, Khaddafy, Kaddafi....

Many years ago some media began spelling his name with a "G" because a group of American school children wrote him a letter (it has been too long to remember the details) to which he (or one of his aides) responded, in English, and spelled his name "Ghadaffi." The newspaper, which as I recall...

Where did you get your avatar?

I am sorry.I understand only too well the sorrow of losing a much-loved feline friend. I have similarly suffered the recent loss of a much-loved cat; she died from end-stage renal failure. My avatar is a favorite cartoon character, "Marvin the Martian," that I remember from my childhood. He...

    What are MIM parts?

I got rid of an older Smith for a new one. as I mentioned on two other posts (http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/179448-classic-s-w-model-27-four-inch-2.html) and (http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/179684-many-people-buying-new-s-w-revolvers-5.html) I...

Are many people buying new S&W revolvers?

Quality and Workmanship First, Not Age or Holding Company! I posted this reply to another question on the forum. I hope it helps. It sums up what I think about the new versus old S&Ws. http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/179448-classic-s-w-model-27-four-inch-2.html

The Classic S&W Model 27 Four Inch

If you like your 27 Classic and the quality is good, keep it and enjoy it. The "original" revolvers had quality issues just like the newer ones, although they didn't have MIM and the damned IL. I owned a half-dozen or so I bought new during the 1970s, and they all had some mechanical or...

    .40 S&W Ammo Question

Hi all, I bought a 4053 in .40 cal. After asking about the 4053 on this forum, I received enough positive feedback about it that I went ahead and picked it up (thank you, forum members!:)). It looks to me to be a great pocket automatic or glove box gun for traveling, but I do not know anything...

Are N frames from the 50's or 60's better than from the 70's?

Now For Something Totally Different! I had a nickle M58 from the mid-1970s. It was LNIB, but the workmanship was so poor that I sold it. I later came upon a nickle M58-1 "classic," which is flawless, so I bought it. It has a forged, not MIM trigger (the trigger is not "hollow" on back and I can...

    Newer "crush fit" Barrels

I have never understood exactly what "crush fit" means, but Smith & Wesson has a tool available to remove barrels. It is a mandrel that fits inside the bore and engages the rifling and is then turned to remove the barrel.

Does "Pinned & Recessed" have any practical value?

I don't think the pinned barrel and recessed (counterbored, really) chambers have any practical advantage. They are more a call back to the "they don't make 'em like they used to" traditionalist point of view, which is understandable when collecting artifacts of historical interest like S&W. I...

    S& W .38 cal. ammo query

.38 S&W Ammo Availability Mike's Gun Room in Richardson, Texas, has several boxes (maybe more) of factory S&W .38 ammo (I saw it there last week). Mike's is open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. Mike also has some interesting collector pieces, including a S&W Hand Ejector No.2, .455, in...

    Any Thoughts on the 4053?

Hi all, I have a chance to get a 4053. It looks like it would be a good "traveling" pistol. With a round chambered and DAO, it seems it would be quick and easy to use. It is .40 cal, which I have never owned and know nothing about, except I have heard remarks that the cartridge is like an...

    .38 S&W for Defense?

I just snagged a 1970-vintage model 32 "Terrier" in .38 S&W. It is a light, handy little revolver. Is the .38 S&W cartridge an acceptable defense round, or is it a waste of time? I don't reload, so I would be depending on the factory fodder. Also, can anyone tell me what the ballistics of the...
