I have found that a lot of times when a revo is acting weird, that either the hammer or trigger pivot pin has broken off, and the related appendage is wallowing around inside. This may or may not be the case here, but might be worth a look.

The few Colt Python barrels I've measured were an even size for the length of the bore. However they are more accurate with light (slow) target loads due to the 1 - 14 twist rate, as compared to the S&W 1 - 18-3/4 twist rate.
