    686 PC - accuracy issues

Granted I don't shoot from a bag rest, but I wouldn't complain too much about 3" groups at 25 yards...

    Model 581

Here's my M581. Like you, I'm partial to the fixed sights ever since I bought a 940 new. Quicker on the target than adjustable sights IMHO...

    686 prices

I like the 686 but my preference is for a fixed sight 681. I like the blued 581 even better. In my experience the fixed sight revolvers acquire a target faster and are more accurate. The blued guns are just sexier than the stainless.

    Hummingbirds Are Back!

Some things you should know about hummingbird feeders... 1) Clean them regularly. In the sun, the sugar liquid will ferment. This is harmful to the birds if they drink it. 2) Don't use the commercial mix for hummingbird feeders. It contains red dye. 3) If you are serious about feeding...

    Another WWII combat vet passes...

Thank you all for your condolences. I thought I'd share something I gave to my father about 20 years ago. I found an original 28th Division Keystone patch and framed it. Photo attached.

    Another WWII combat vet passes...

He was born in 1923. Like so many of his time he enlisted to help America fight the war that threatened its very existence. He found himself in the 109th regiment of the US 28th infantry division, aka The Pennsylvania National Guard. Their patch was the red Keystone, which the Germans would come...

Federal 9mm 147gr HST with sealed primers

I recently purchased some Federal 9mm 147gr HST in the new packaging and the primers are sealed. I have a lot of 9mm HST and none of it has sealed primers except this new batch. Anyone else notice this?

Being old, the good and the bad

This is a well worn saw but it's true and can't be disputed... Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Doesn't matter how old you are. All you have done and all that you are have already happened and cannot be changed. But your new choices begin today...

    Great answer. Thank you!

Best practice ammo for 357/38 wheel guns?

I can get whatever I want, and probably have a ton of it already. I'm still looking for someone to answer why FMJ's are harmful to a revolver barrel, and why leading is not an issue with wadcutters.

Best practice ammo for 357/38 wheel guns?

Yes, this is what I've read before. But why isn't leading in the barrel and at the forcing cone an issue? Or is leading something that you just put up with when cleaning?

Best practice ammo for 357/38 wheel guns?

Most of my hand gun experience is with 9mm semiautos so I'm used to FMJ practice ammo. I have revolvers, and I just "assumed" that FMJ was the standard practice ammo for them too. However, I've read a few threads in the forum that indicate wadcutters are better. Someone please explain why FMJ's...

What does this look like to you?

So... I've read the rules of the forum and I think I'm OK posting this. I was interested in an auction that is now over, but I had a question regarding one of the auction photos which I have attached. To me this looks like an eroded forcing cone. The seller said no. I'm not a wheel gun expert...

    Shallow dug well is dry

Well... you're not gonna like this answer but if you can't get water by digging down a few feet then you need a well driller. I built my house in 1987 and had a well drilled that went down 310 feet until it hit the aquifer. The water is cold, clear, and pumps 30 GPM. It cost me big $$ then but...

Possible purchase 6" barrel 586 no dash - $570 USD

The hammer nose of my 581 is black like yours but the bushing is blued. I think the difference may be because my revolver was never sent back for a recall. The modifications were done at the factory and the gun was blued and issued as an "M" model. See the photo of the original box below.
