Need some reassurance - 500 magnum

Thanks for the help guys, I think I've learned my lesson on this one. I ordered a collet type puller and we'll see how it turns out. If nothing else I still have the brass, powder & primers to save. I tried the hammer type puller on a 440 grain bullet just to see. It worked for one bullet...

Need some reassurance - 500 magnum

I'm shooting them in a Smith & Wesson Model 500 X-frame revolver. Whats a guy to do when theres no load data for the bullets you have? I've got 452 grain FNGC & 440 grain WFNGC that I cant find anything for. Is 440 grain the same as any 440 grain when it comes to lead cast bullets?? When...

Need some reassurance - 500 magnum

That's one thing that always surprises me. Lyman max is 31, Hornady max is 32.5 and Hodgdon max is 33. Iss there a better way to pull these big bullets without wrecking them? I have a Frankford Arsenal Impact Puller, but it slides the jacket off the bullets maybe 1/16" or so. I'd hate to...

Need some reassurance - 500 magnum

I recently reloaded some 500 magnums and for whatever reason I'm doubting myself, something that's never bugged me before, like I missed or overlooked something. Here's the load data: Hornady 500 grain XTP 32 grains H110 CCI LRM primer COAL 2.065" 452 grain RFNGC 28.5 grains Lil Gun CCI 200...

    500 mag brass markings

I forget whats what with the 500 mag brass markings when it comes to primers. If there's no indication at all it's large pistol, and the R means large rifle?

    Crimping hand gun rounds

I double checked and it is a set of Lee dies, but it's the three die set.

    Crimping hand gun rounds

I bought RCBS just to try a set out. Figures, I should have stuck with Lee

    Crimping hand gun rounds

I had heard this before, but my S&W 500 dies don't crimp unless I'm doing something wrong with the set up? I had to buy a roll crimp die. Somewhere I read that revolver rounds get a roll crimp & auto's get a taper crimp? Seems like it should be easy to remember.

    Crimping hand gun rounds

Is it necessary to crimp all handgun reloads, or is there a "cut off" between smaller and larger rounds? The only thing I have reloaded for hand gun is 500 mag, but now I'm going to work on 44 and 41 magnum. Thanks guys

cast bullets - do they usually vary so much?

Maybe I need to rephrase my question, I have two tupperware containers of bullets. How do I tell what grain they are if they vary two to four grains? Do I just round up or down to the closest listed weight? They are factory cast bullets with gas checks.

cast bullets - do they usually vary so much?

I'm new to reloading for handguns but I've been reloading for rifles maybe three or four years now. I've got an assortment of cast bullets that came with my 500. One box is still the factory box so I know what they are 440gr. WFNGC, but none of them actually weigh 440gr. Most are about...

    Pulling someone else's reloads

Brass is all Starline & Hornady. I'm going to plan on pulling them all, just need to figure out which puller to get for both types of bullets so I can at least re-use them. Do you have to re-size the cases after pulling bullets? The whole crimp thing is new to me, but I would assume that...

    Pulling someone else's reloads

I wondered about weighing each round too. I'm not worried about the prrimers so much, more so a double charge or something. So will the puller posted above damage the bullets by pulling them? I noticed the description says not use with non-jacketed bullets, so how do you pull lead bullets?

    Pulling someone else's reloads

I recently bought a Model 500 and the guy added 200 rounds of ammo that he loaded. His records are very specific and I checked the loads against my book, but I still don't feel comfortable shooting them. My first question is how do I go about pulling these huge things? Second question is...
