    S&W Customer Service Rocks!!!

To make a long story short, I bought a NIB Model 40 with the Case Colored finish. Gun arrived and the finish was BEAUTIFUL (If you can handle it not being blued or nickel). The barrel sucked!!! Bad chatter marks in the lands and grooves, bad sharp burr on the forcing cone, cylinder slop, and the...

    Model 40 Case Coloring

Thanks for the info S&WChad! No such stamp under the grip panels. Must be done in house, but what a nice job! Looks just like Doug's work from the Heritage series

    Model 40 Case Coloring

Loco Weed, how well does the side plate fit on you CC Model 40? Mine fits nicely except at the top. It's NIB from S&W, so it's not as if the plate was removed incorrectly. I'm just wondering if I should send it back in to them? There's also burrs on the cylinder lock grooves, and what looks like...

    Model 40 Case Coloring

I just heard back from S&W. It is a actual Case Hardened finish. They weren't sure if Doug did the CC, but they did say it was done "in house." Turnbull seems pretty busy to be CC frames for S&W "in house" (my model 40 was made in November 2009).

Also, I heard a rumor that Doug Turnbull had done some case coloring for S&W in the past. Was that only for custom...

Factory ammo in old lemon squeezer?

Thanks for the responses! I don't intend on shooting it much, but it's no fun if they can't go bang every once in a while!

Factory ammo in old lemon squeezer?

no opinions out there? I read plenty on people shooting their 4th & 5th models. I guess what I'm asking is should I pull apart a whole box of factory ammo, so I can reload it with Pyrodex. Don't be scared to reply. I'm only asking for opinions. I release anyone from any liability! Am I posting...

Factory ammo in old lemon squeezer?

Hello all! New poster here. I recently aquired an old 3rd model safety hammerless (serial #1026xx) in .38 s&w. Mechanically this revolver is in excellent working order. My question is a matter of opinion. Is it safe to fire factory loaded ammo (magtech .38s&w). I understand the age of such a...
