this brings up something I've wondered about. It takes x amount of force to fire a(ny) primer. This can be measured as hammer force and the magic number is stated by many as 48 oz. on centerfires, much higher on rimfires. This hammer force comes from the mainspring. So does it really matter...

OP, it's amazing how many responses you get that don't address the issue. The gun is in a ransom rest! The real answer is no. At 20 ft the ammo will not cause a 5 inch difference. I have never seen a 5 inch discrepancy at 25 yards.

fwiw, the early 617s (-2) are different. the firing pin is different and does not come out that way.

I know how to disassemble the gun, the question is how does the fp come out. It's not the same as a center fire

I'm sorry for the way this sounds, but I do not understand why people keep buying these guns with all these recorded problems. I do not want something with a good warranty I want something that does not need a warranty and in my opinion Smith has not made anything like that for quite a few years
