N frame grips for small hands

The factory grips have always been too big for me. Not expensive, custom, or exotic, but I have sometimes used the Herretts Grips on my 27-2 and other S&Ws. They are a target type, but considerably smaller than factory N-Frame target grips. Don't know if they are still available new, I found...

    S&W 686 Plus Functionality

Handgunner, I didn't think to mention trigger pull with my regular production 686MG. The factory DA trigger on the new Mountain Gun is lighter than with one of my earlier 686s with a Wolff reduced power mainspring. Whatever mainspring S&W is using on the new MG, wish I could buy a few for some...

    S&W 686 Plus Functionality

I've owned several 686s since they were introduced, carried a 686 on duty for some years, etc. . They have provided the reliable, durable and accurate service you asked about. I still enjoy the 686s.

Velocity differences between revolver barrel lengths 38 special

Riposte, That 158 BB; Wow! I haven't tried the BB 158, but the BB 180 grain has always done the advertised 1400 fps or so in my 4" and 5" revolvers. The underwood 180 also does the advertised 1400 FPS in my guns...

    3913 questions

I've had a 3913 for years. I carried it as a second weapon at work, and as a CCW after retirement. Mine feeds any and all the factory ammo I've used. I just clean and lube now and then. A few years ago; had a malfunction and discovered the the factory magazine springs were pretty weak...

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

Come to think of it, I don't recall hearing of .38 Spcl. revolvers blowing up, other than with some reloader's double charge, etc. I was shooting with old friends years ago. The husband reloaded all the couple's ammo, including lightly loaded .38 Spcl. for his wife to use. One day, she was...

Which 66 (No Dash) is the better gun?

Aftermarket, Thai?, stocks on both. Polished triggers. FWIW, I sent my "2K" model 66 in for overhaul in '80; most everything except frame and side plate, to include the barrel, was replaced. It came back from S&W with a red ramp front sight, so perhaps on a 4K gun the RR is factory? Not...

    Movie firearm question

I think Alas Babylon may have been the first of that genre I ever read. Read it more than once, and believe I still have my old copy around here someplace.

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

I think I've learned a lot in this thread about our beloved .38 Special. Never knew there was a 110 grain load in the '30s. I remember when "vented" started appearing in the manufacturer handgun cartridge literature. Vented vs. unvented makes quite a bit of difference in velocity. I still...

Advice about a 686 plus Deluxe

It's just a manufacturing mistake. I wouldn't attribute any incased value to it. It's still a S&W with the "Lock"; not generally a popular thing with S&W fans...

    High Grade Smith and Wesson

The MR73 looks like a revolver the French would design. If the 586 and MR73 were the same price, I'd still buy the 586....

    What to do?????

I have the 686MG. I am quite content with the quality. If that little pin goes away, I'm not going to obsess over it, or trash S&W on the internet. It is just not a big deal...

    PDW's

My "PDWs" have all been the boring old revolver or traditional semi-auto pistol types. I usually had other weapons available, but figured if I ever really needed a firearm right now, it would be the pistol or revolver I had on me. I was right. No time to go back to the car, to get a shotgun or...
