    M&P 340 Firing Pin Sparks?

My 642 has an occasional spark also. I would not worry about it. That pin moves pretty fast. If it rubs against the channel it could produce a spark. Even if you replace the parts, the new parts will also likely have some contact with eachother.

    S&W 15 intermittent hammer jam/ timing off

I figured out what was causing the jam. When the cylinder rotates, the rim of the cartridge gets caught on the machined ridge on the frame. Here is a picture of the ridge on the frame and a snap cap jammed on the ridge with the hammer half cocked.

    S&W 15 intermittent hammer jam/ timing off

I have a problem with my SW15 (made in 1967) that occurs on a very intermittent basis. Sometimes when I cock it single action, the hammer jambs at about the halfway position. Today I opened it up and cleaned and lubed the internals. I put it back together and was able to get it to do it a couple...

38 Special- Power Pistol any good?

I bought a pound of Power Pistol yesterday. I'll load some Speer 158 LSWCHP and some 140 Rem JHP with it and test the position sensitivity and accuracy. I won't be able to shoot till next week, but I'll report back. Speer is the only manual I have that shows any Power Pistol loads in 38 Spl. It...

38 Special- Power Pistol any good?

I just tested that very same load a couple days ago. I used Speer 158gr LSWCHP and 4.7 grains of W231. I got an avg of 914 fps with the powder in the back, and 831 fps with powder forward.

38 Special- Power Pistol any good?

I am looking for a powder for 38 special that is not as position sensitive as W231. I get about 70 fps difference in velocity with muzzle up/down changes. Is power pistol any good. I noticed it has a higher charge weight so maybe less air space in the case.

    Does your 3" S&W 65 shoot low?

I have a 3" model 65 that shoots 2-3 inches low at 25 yards. Even with 158 grain bullets it shoots on the low side. I am just wondering if this is common with the 3" or is it just my gun? I figure maybe the front sight height was intended for the 4" barrel.

    2400 in 38 spl?

I actually loaded up some 140gr jhp last night using 2400. They shot very nice! The grouping was good and they had a very consistant velocity. There was less unburned powder in the barrel than I thought. I loaded up the same bullet using W231 and got acceptable groups, but not as good as the...

Slow vs Fast powder- gun wear

Assuming bullet weight and velocity are the same, does the powder speed affect gun wear to any degree? I have found a couple nice target loads in my 357 mag for 158 grain bullets. One load using W231 and another using 2400. Since the accuracy and bullet velocity is about the same for the two...

    S&W M-65 3in

I like the 145gr Winchester Silvertips for my 3" 65. The Silvertips have a bit lower recoil than the Hydrashocks. Don't get me wrong though, the 158 Hydrashocks are great bullets too. By the way here are my chorny results for the two fired out of a 3" 65... Winchester 145gr Silvertips 1194...

    2400 in 38 spl?

I just picked up a jug of 2400 today for making some 357 mag loads. I happened to notice that there is data out there for using 2400 for 38 special 158 grain projectiles. I was thinking that 2400 would be a bit too slow for a 38 special. (I have a 2" and a 4" 38 spl) Has anyone ever tried 2400...

38 spl- Will a 125gr hornady xtp expand?

I mostly shoot rainier 140gr bullets out of my 4" model 15. I loaded up a few 125gr hornady xtp just to see how they shot and they seemed to shoot quite nicely. Do you think these bullets will expand at 38 spl velocities? (I am getting 914 fps on the chrony) I think the 135 speer would be a...
