An Oddball Collection - My S&W 3000 Collection

One gun that seems to escape unnoticed most of the time outside Law Enforcement circles is the venerable S&W 3000 shotgun. Unheralded and relatively short-lived, it was only around for a few years, before being subsequently sold to Mossberg, who didn't keep it around much longer, so parts can be...

    A Humpback hammer question...

I, too, surmise that they simply took a 5" barrel with rounded front sight blade, milled and pinned the Patridge, and installed it. The barrel has no patent markings on top, nor is it relieved for the barrel knob extractor, which means they simply used a standard right hand thread rod from...

    A Humpback hammer question...

Zombie thread, arise! 10 years ago, I posted about this 1905 4th target model with a humpback hammer; (never let it be said that I rush into things :)), but in July 2025, I finally broke down and requested a letter, which reveals that this gun left the Stockbridge plant on October 16, 1940...

DSS Model 19 with verification letter AYZ serial number range

Thought I'd wrap this thread up with a family portrait, to include the authorized ammo. The Federal .38 Spl. 125gr +P Nyclad Hollowpoint was the Authorized service round for the Model 19 during its Service life for the majority of its service, but was supplanted by the Winchester .38 Spl. 125gr...

DSS Model 19 with verification letter AYZ serial number range

Yeah, it's a bit of a head scratcher the way it's worded, but it does say it was shipped, so I don't know. I do recognize the address they give for it going to, so it may well be a case of insufficient data due to the mainframe being down. I may try to follow-up if/when the computer c9omes back...

DSS Model 19 with verification letter AYZ serial number range

Several months ago, another thread ( https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/matte-black-model-19-5.737386/#post-142177022 ) came up discussing DSS Model 19s and their serial number ranges. Back on June 19th, I acquired what I suspected was a DSS Model 19 4' Round Butt gun with an AYZ9208 serial...

Poor Man’s Collection, Part Deux ( a decade later......)

Thanks! Here's a pic of the 4" M&Ps from the 2013 post. In a way, I guess I'm very lucky that I'm not a N-Frame fan - I can't even imagine how one can afford to collect those puppies without winning the lottery. I consider the blued 4" guns to be a working man's goal. Besides being a K-Frame...

Poor Man’s Collection, Part Deux ( a decade later......)

You are very right - the Model 11-4 was the last one I needed, and it cost me the most , but it's not complete without it :). Funny thing though, it's not one of the SAP-marked guns that were sold off by S&W at auction. Need to letter it.

Poor Man’s Collection, Part Deux ( a decade later......)

Back in November of 2013, I managed to finally achieve a small portion of my collecting goals, namely, a set of blued K-Frame M&P 4” revolvers in the most commonly available calibers (.22, .32 S&W L, .32-20, .38S&W, .38 Spl., 9mm, and .357 Magnum)...

    Price for Unique Powder?

I did a bunch of surfing on the 'net, and came across the following on a site called Shooters' Forum about dating these containers of Alliant powders using the 6 digits after the letter shift code. Anyone else heard of this? This would make the Orange Labeled container I bought the oldest...

    Price for Unique Powder?

Well, based on the info you guys posted, I was able to talk him into $30 per pound :) I did have to drive about a 150 miles round trip, so you have to figure in the cost of gas, which puts it right around $210 when all is said and done, so I'm thinking it was worth it, given its versatility for...

    Price for Unique Powder?

He hasn't named one yet, but I'm thinking not offering more than $40 Sounds like a reasonable idea. I haven't seen any on the shelves, but even online (out of stock) seemed waaayyy high. Who knows when it will be available again? Thanks
