Sorry to hear about your 4053, mine has been flawless. It even feeds empty cases like a champ. Everybody let's a turkey out every once in a while, I had a 70 series Colt that had a hammer machined off center that would hit the slide on the way down. They never could get it to run correctly.
I gave $299 for mine, but it was a heavily used ,police trade in which someone had regularly used a screwdriver to pop out the slide stop. Most of them tend to go from the low 3's to to mid 400 depending on condition.
It is, Jetpilot007. Unbelievably, I traded a Star .40 Starvel Firestar straight up for it. I tried to convince the pawn shop owner that is was something special and it was worth much more than the Firestar, but he insisted all Smiths are Jam-o-matics, and said he was glad to be rid of it. :D
I might be mistaken, but I thought the 3913/14 was developed with the 147gr bullet in mind. Mind has always shot those much better than the inexpensive and available 115's
They are absolutely great weapons. I always preferred the 3913 and 4013 over the DAO's, but the 4053tsw showed me that they
have a place in my collection. After swapping my hammer spring out for a 17lb Wolf, I lightly polished the hammer. Lots of dry firing, and several hundred rounds down range...
