I bought a very early Glock 17 about 1990. It had a very bad habit of throwing brass straight back into shooters face or down the shirt. If that happens to your uncle a few times he ain't gonna be happy. I traded mine in as part payment on a 4" Python.
Bob
squirrel problem solved.
I have a very big owl(I think it's called Barred) that lives in the woods behind our development. If a squirrel meets an untimely demise, the big owl swoops down and has a feast.
Very handy arrangement.
Andy Horvath is the MAN!
I have one converted by Andy way back in the early 1990s when Andy was building his reputation. Yes John Taffin introduced him to us. When I called Andy his Mom answered the phone. I had bought a hard used Ruger 357 Magnum three- screw that wasn't pretty anymore...
Peregrine Falcons
My last job was in a 40 story office building. Of course there were lots of pigeons in the downtown office buildings. Eventually some peregrine falcons were brought in to eat pigeons. It's really quite a sight to look out an office window and see the falcon hit a pigeon in...
The 40 caliber bulge
The bulge in 40 brass is not unique to Glocks. I have a 40 S&W ParaOrdance pistol built for me by Bruce Gray about 30yrs ago. The barrel has an unsupported chamber. New 40 brass can survive at least one firing, but if you resize that brass the next time it runs in...
Two 3" 624s
My two 624s are both ALW serial numbers only 229 numbers apart. One is certified Lew Horton and the other is not. The verified LH gun also has the magical factory Red C stamped on the box. The non-Horton is a factory over-run of the LH order.
Interesting there's no M14s in the stack. I and many of my home town and college friends all trained with during the early 1960s. I can't ask my Marine corps buddy cuz he's already passed on but he did basic in 1960.
Tornados in Iowa too
Glad you didn't get hit. We've had a few small tornados this year including very close to one daughter's home. She saw it coming and hid in the basement bathroom. Fortunately it missed her house.
Red Dots are GOOD!!
If you're as old as I am with tired eyes red dots are very important. The dots are built to withstand the constant slamming of the slide when firing. I can assure all you worry-warts that using the red dot body to rack the slide is minimal stress vs. shooting.
Take a...
Cracks Happen
A local friend had a 617 4" bbl. 22 LR caliber; he shot it a bit, then sold it to a shooting buddy. The new owner found exactly the same crack shown in the original post and gave the gun back to my buddy. He sent it to S&W and they replaced the frame but he had to wait 6 months...
Thanks for your helpful replies
This post is a result of a local shooter buddy who recently bought a 30-40 Krag carbine from that auction house in western Illinois. He hadn't fired it because of winter weather. He has a full-size Krag as well. He also had 20 rounds of handloads. He loaded...
I was rifling around in my safe and found a 30/40 Krag full-size military rifle. I remember buying it a long time ago; original sale tags still attached. I searched for ammo in the cabinet and found none!
I would like any ideas you all may have on where to source ammo. Local stores just go...
I have one
I have a beautiful S&W Model 25-2 in original nickel finish that I bought at a local gun show 30+years ago. The seller tried to welsh on the deal when he realized it had a 6 1/2" barrel. A few years ago at a S&W collectors annual convention a member had a nickel-plated muzzle brake...
