    Bobbing the hammer, question

All good advice, and much appreciated! Buying a spare hammer to bob was my initial thought, but then, I'm not going to ever get rid of that gun. I might still do it, though. I carry this revolver in a small leather holster in my front pocket 95% of the time. When I sit down, the hammer pokes...

    Bobbing the hammer, question

I have a Model 60 that I carry a lot. I would like to bob the hammer to keep it from snagging. Since doing so will remove mass from the hammer, could this potentially result in light(er) strikes? Do I need to a heavier main spring? Or am I overthinking the whole issue? Any advice from the...

    How rare are 7-shot 686-4s?

Thanks for all the input, everybody. I went ahead and bought the gun. It came with a nice Galco leather holster, and the price seemed fair. Well under $600. Are those Altamont stocks factory on this model?

    How rare are 7-shot 686-4s?

I came across a pre-lock 7-shot 686-4 the other day. I don't think I've seen one without a lock before. How rare are these? Do they typically command more money that the 6-shot version? Are they as reliable and un-finnicky as the regular sixguns? Thinking about picking it up. Thanks!

    Are 625-3 models .45LC?

Are all 625-3 models caliber .45LC? I already own a 625-2 and a 625-4. Came across a 625-3 today. I had read that uneven dash numbers (-3, -5, -7) were .45 Colt, not .45ACP. Standard Catalog mentions that, too. But there are no markings on the gun indicating such. It simply says ".45 Cal...

    Bead Blasted Stainless Finish

Hey TAROMAN, that looks great. Can I ask what S&W charged you to do that? Thanks!

    Bead Blasted Stainless Finish

I have a 625-2 that has a bead blasted finish from the factory. The revolver has a few scuffs and shiny spots from holster wear and I've considered redoing the bead blasted finish. The problem is that the "Smith & Wesson" and "45 Cal Model of 1989" markings on the barrel are laser etched, not...

    Price Check on Model 25-5

Went back today to take another look at this 25-5. I brought with me a Hornady XTP .452 bullet that actually measures closer to .451. It did not drop through the chambers without a slight push, so I'm assuming this revolver does not have the oversized throats. They won't budge on the price...

    Price Check on Model 25-5

Local store has a very nice Model 25-5 with a 4" barrel. Not mint, but very nice. Comes with a holster and has minimal holster wear on the tip of the barrel, otherwise the finish is almost perfect. It has the smooth target grips. No case or papers. They are asking $1200, is that the going rate...

    N-Frame Hammer Block

I just picked up a pre-Model 28 from 1954. Took it apart to clean and found that the hammer block is missing. Before I buy one off of ebay, can one of the experts here tell me if they are all the same? I see some listed as "K/L/N Frame". Is there only one size? Do year and or dash number...

Old .38 Special with no model number (edit: pre-model 14)

Interesting. What are you basing that on? The grips? I'm in Louisiana.

Old .38 Special with no model number (edit: pre-model 14)

Thanks everybody for coming through with advice so quickly. This worked out well, I went back and got the gun for $300. It cleaned up really well, looks like it has hardly been shot. has a bit of wear from storage, but almost no turn ring, no carbon around the forcing cone or in the chambers...
