    First Revolver

Nice birthday gift!! As for ammo, it is beginning to show up on the shelves again although you may have to "hunt" a bit for it. If nothing else, broaden your chances for finding some by searching for .38 Special ammo in addition to the .357 Magnum stuff. It is a good alternative, and very good...

New Member & Model-60 Owner With A Couple Questions

Good little Smith Bought one of these for my wife back in 1997. I have to say it is one of the sweetest little revolvers she or I have ever fired. Good trigger, especially in the single action mode. I would stay with the .38 Special loads for practice. Firing a full power .357 load thru the...

Favorite light recoil load for 38 special

Try a 125 LFP You might try a 125 LFP. I loaded some using Trail Boss and ran them over a Chronograph. Here are my loads and results; Pistol -- S&W MODEL 64-5 with a 4 in. barrel 3.0 gr Trail Boss = 634 fps avg. Very light recoil. 3.5 gr Trail Boss = 718 fps avg. Light recoil. (My favorite...

    45 cal. Revolver or 1911?

The .45 ACP is a heck of a round for auto-loaders, but I have to admit, I have never fired it in a revolver. I have used, and reload for, the .45 Long Colt cartridge in a revolver and love it! Easy to reload.....easy to shoot.....easy to find ammo. So far, the only real drawback that I see is...

    Model 1917 Hand Ejector Research

Last week, I was able to soak the 1917 Hand Ejector in some kerosene, then using the brake cleaner as suggested, got most of the gunk out of the internal mechanism. By using some very light oil that contained TEFLON, I managed to free the cylinder from the frame and lube the ejector rod so that...

    Model 1917 Hand Ejector Research

This is really informative, all of the information and suggestions I am getting on this old pistol, and I sure do appreciate it. Thanks to all who are taking the time to make their comments! On the tensioner screw, I'll have do some more research with gunparts.com and Numerich to see what they...

    Model 1917 Hand Ejector Research

Interesting. At this time, I am unable to swing the cylinder out for inspection, nor is the hammer able to be cocked. Apparently the internal parts are gummed up and I will have to remove the plate on the right side to get to them to clean. Have done this once before to another S&W revolver...

    Model 1917 Hand Ejector Research

A neighbor brought over a S&W Model 1917 revolver to show me yesterday and asked if I knew anything about the firearm. It peaked my interest, and I told him I would research it on this site. With this in mind, I would like to ask for some help in getting some information on this pistol. This...

Thoughts on the 3" Model 60's Durability

S&W Model 60 I say go for it. My wife has one exactly like it....has fired several hundred rounds of both .38 Spl. and .357 Mag. ammo thru it without any problems. Just keep it clean, and runs like a clock.
