Model 52-2 safety lever broke off

That’s compelling, I admit that I have not ever considered this before, but I definitely see the argument. Very interesting!

    59/459 pistols

This is a silly argument for me to undertake on the S&W Forum but the S&W 5906 is a much better handgun than the Beretta 92F or 92FS and I would think anyone without a preconceived bias would agree. I certainly do have a preconceived bias, so all I can do is make my argument, but at least admit...

    59/459 pistols

The “WonderNine” term came in to vogue probably in the 1980’s when the larger share of LE departments were transitioning from 6-shot .38 Special revolvers to 9mm handguns. I believe the qualifications are double action and double stack hi-cap magazine and 9mm chambering. As it was introduced...

559 extractor replacement issues-Need your help

I totally love that you followed up on this — so many never do and this is now great information logged here to be tapped in to by anyone in the future. Furthermore, I have never in my entire life seen a picture of that rare, short-lived extractor, and that is a very cool addition to the forum...

    Is the .40 dead ? Let's see some !

There are also similarly marked 4006’s out on the market, the emblem with the bear is awesome but all the 4006’s are the adjustable rear sight guns and, well, yeeesh.

    59/459 pistols

I will agree with the consensus so far and add some of my own. It’s been my experience that most every 1st Gen 39/59 has a really very nice single action trigger break. The DA is typically quite heavy but smooth. The 2nd Gen guns seem to be hit or miss and I have owned a few. My 469 has a...

    ProMags for my 3914?

There is no aftermarket magazine manufacturer that is better than ProMag if your ultimate goal is to train for failure drills. If you have just one chance to buy a new magazine that is most likely to suck, ProMag has no peer across the industry.

Subjective of course... but to my eyes, Smith & Wesson simply never made a better looking semiautomatic pistol in the entire history of the company than the Performance Center 3566 Limited. And your photo is stunning!

    Last Time Shooting S&W Auto

To expand on the thought and to further lower your concern… After buying my first 52, which was a 52-2, I started a multi-year deep dive chasing down every avenue looking fore MORE Model 52’s and seeing & learning a lot along the way. What I found countless times were 52’s and 52-1’s, many...

    Semi-Auto Help

I would grab a 4006 or a 4006TSW if it needs to be a S&W. Most bang for the buck in my opinion would be a CZ Tac Sport in .40cal. A used one. Phenomenal handgun.

    Pale Rider?

That’s because you bead blast all your S&W pistols.

When did Novak sights and Curved Trigger Guard come in?

Maybe this is a large frame vs small frame kind of separation? I have NEVER seen a fixed sight 10xx that was non-Novak, and those guns started shipping in 1990.

Model 52-2 safety lever broke off

I am open to hearing counter arguments but if you look at the design, you have a large rotating part that in normal operation is supposed to take repeated hits in one state, and that you can choose to repeatedly hit in another state, subjecting it to the full force of the hammer. I just cringe...

Your slide stop is also bright, almost “in the white” on the outside edge. Our serial prefixes are NOWHERE near each other however! That’s pretty odd considering the very time they made this particular model.

If you have some concerns about you old style extractor, my vote is don’t worry about it. If you are always charging from the magazine, you are unlikely to see any extractor failure.
