28-2 ...price seems a "bit" high...

Same thing here in CO. I saw a 28 in decent shape for $700 and a well worn one for $595. The kicker is a 27 in great shape was $710 sitting right next to the 28's. Back home in MO I never saw a 28 over $475. But I also saw a refinished old m&p .38 for $450 at the same store. And another store...

    Renaissance Wax...

We use it at the gunsmithing school I go to. It leaves a nice clean look when applied. Tru oil also makes a wax that costs a tenth of the cost that I hear is just as good. One thing to think about for using it on a carry gun is build up in your holster.

    696 .44 Question

A year ago when I worked at Cabela's I bought a no dash for $400 from the library. Great shooting gun. I didn't know it's value until after I sold it. Oh well. I like my 29 better anyway.

    Bluing Shade

I had a defective barrel replaced at the factory and the new one is a couple shades darker. Hard to tell except in sunlight. It doesn't bother me at all.

    pro's con's 696

I had a 696 no dash and loved it. Used it for carry. The only thing I didn't like was the speed loaders from HKS didn't work very well with it. Got rid of it along with a bunch of guns to afford a move and my new 29 which I love even more.

    Which M&P is most popular?

When I worked at Cabelas, the 9 and 40 seemed to sell better than the 45. The compacts did ok, but didn't sell as well as the full size. As to picking the 9 or 40, some days it depended on what ammo was on the shelf. I liked the feel of my 40, but bought it because I got a great deal. I prefer...

    Collins Craft grips?

I've had a couple pair of his grips. I like them, he makes them wide for comfortable shooting. If you want them for ccw, let him know so he can make them thinner.

Current production Classics blueing and grip quality?

My only complaint with mine was the grips stuck out from the frame where the web of your hand is. One cylinder of magnums and you had some skin missing. Replaced them and the problem was solved.

    Rust removal

0000 steel wool and gun or cutting oil are what I use. Rub gently, let the steel wool do the work. The area that had the rust will probably not have bluing due to it being eaten away. Remember to wipe off the little pieces of the steel wool that break off. I have to do this after bluing a gun...

    Ripple Marks in Barrel Bores

I had a post a while back about this. Those flags are normal for their new process. But my barrel apparently had the reamer break inside of it, it looked like a car wreck. I didn't notice until after I shot it. Let's just say the point of impact was set on random. Called S&W and shipped it free...

WTB: LH 4'' N-Frame concealment leather.

I carry my N frame in a Milt Sparks summer special 2. The only problem with that is I had to wait six months to get it. But I couldn't imagine a better holster for the job.

    Am I Nuts ?

I carry a 29 and stick with specials unless I'm in the mountains.

    Mil Comm oil and grease.

TW25b is a great semi fluid lube. Used it on deployment, and even when shooting a lot it doesn't burn off. S&W premium lube is better than CLP in my opinion.
