Model 10-5 Bore and Groove Diameters?

I could pound a slug through the bore of my 10-5 but am stumped as to how to measure with the odd number grooves. I understand a special micrometer is available for such measurements, but that piece of equipment is not in my future. Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering what members here might...

    Best Full Charge Wadcutter Loads

Thanks to all for your responses. I should have noted that I'm working on this project as my woods/hiking carry load. I'm well aware that great accuracy with wadcutters is attainable at much lower charges.

    Best Full Charge Wadcutter Loads

Thanks, Gary. I will be looking into that bullet.

    Best Full Charge Wadcutter Loads

I plan on loading the so-called "full charge" solid-base .38 Special lead wadcutter for use in a Model 66-1 snubby. For starters, I'll try the 3.5 grs Bullseye that Ed Harris suggests, though it would be interesting to learn about equivalent charges with other common pistol powders. Have...

    Bought the gun,not the glitter

Great revolver. I had two of the 125th anniversary packages and still suffer the usual seller's remorse. I only shot the first one. It did very well, especially with the wadcutter designed by Jan Libourel, formerly a handgun editor at Guns & Ammo. Saeco made the mold.

    Need 28-2 date

N824XX. If I am reading it correctly, a 2009 thread by Pilgrim on the Northeasternshooters.com gives a 1972-74 date for this revolver. Does that sound correct? Manufactured or shipped date? Thanks.

    Old Bullet Lube Still Good?

Thanks for all the response. LoboGL, I stand corrected on grooves. Yes, these are swaged HBWC's and they have the knurled rings you mention. I decided to load 50 rounds using a DA Lithium Grease smeared with a toothpick around the front third of the bullet. Will see what happens at the...

    Old Bullet Lube Still Good?

I have several hundred HBWC's from Star Reloading that I bought 30 years ago. I'm going to load these with HP38 for light target work out to 25 yards, shooting in various revolvers. Question: is the factory lube on these bullets likely to be as effective today as when the bullets were new...

    Preference for Taper Crimp Dies?

Just read John Zemanek's article in the May-June 1981 issue of Handloader magazine, "Effects of Crimping Handgun Ammo." Fascinating. It lets air out of many old-school ideas on the subject, namely that one particular type of crimp is always best for this or that ammo, this or that gun. Of...

    Best Grips for M66 snub?

Bob, I bought the checkered rosewood variety. They're working fine for lighter loads, haven't yet cooked up anything to see if they hold well under power. I believe I'm going to want a tad more knuckle clearance when she snorts hard.

    Best Grips for M66 snub?

Thanks all for your suggestions and posted photos. I liked the looks of the Renegade by Pachmayr and ordered a pair of those. They're a major improvement over the tiny original grips, but I'll be interested to try some of the synthetics as well.

Bullet Diameter vs Ball End Diameter Question

I would size to .358 if I had that diameter die. .359 is the closest I've got on hand. The loaded niners drop right in. Thanks all for your responses.

    Best Grips for M66 snub?

Problem: large hands, round butt snub 66, need better grip than the factory. I like the Pachmayr Gripper on big square butt revolvers. Is that a good answer for the round butt 66? Anything better than the Gripper for my situation? Thanks

Bullet Diameter vs Ball End Diameter Question

Have a 66-1 that I wish to try at low velocity with Wheel weight cast bullets sized to .359". The cylinder ball ends measure .3575" from a pushed through slug. Is the .359" bullet safe to shoot in this situation? Haven't measured the 5-groove bore. Anyone have a guess on that number? Thanks
